ABILITY GROUP’s team was proud to recently participate in Anytime Fitness’ 24 Hour Treadmill Challenge. Given we support people with mental health issues (both at work & in personal lives), all of us proudly #treadtogether in raising funds to help prevent suicide.
Tread Together – Treadmill Challenge to prevent Suicide – On the 25th of May, the ABILITY GROUP and PROHEALTH PHYSIO teams participated in the 24 hour “Tread Together Challenge” at Anytime Fitness Gym in Lane Cove. Each of our team members ran or walked for 15 minutes each to raise awareness and funds for suicide prevention.
Beyondblue, the national depression and anxiety initiative, is an independent, non-for-profit organisation. It aims to increase awareness, understanding and to reduce the associated stigma of depression and anxiety in Australia. According to their website, suicide is the leading cause of death for Australian’s aged between 15 and 44, with around 3000 people dying by suicide every year.
If you or someone you know is struggling, please start up a conversation with them. Reach out and connect with them. There are many resources to help. You can advise them to talk to family, friends, colleagues, a health care professional, a counsellor, lifeline.org.au, beyondblue.org.au and many others.
The Anytime Fitness website says that exercise has an immensely positive effect on mental health. The treadmill challenge was a fantastic way to raise awareness for suicide prevention and get the community together.
