Due to the recent lockdowns and increasing cases in NSW, more and more people are working from home. It is very important that workers are aware of their work environment and to ensure that healthy work practices are applied at home.
Ergonomics is designing a job fit for the worker so the work is safer and more efficient and essentially preventing any injuries or possible accidents at work. It is important that employers implement ergonomic solutions and can make employees more comfortable and increase productivity. Due to the recent lockdowns in NSW, it is not a doubt that many employees are working from home.
Some examples of Ergonomic practices when working from home:
– Use adjustable desk chair that supports yours lower back and allows your feet to be resting on the floor
– Computer screen should be at eye level and approximately one arm length away from you
– The work surface should be flat, large enough to fit all items required
– You should have adequate lighting
– Having access to a safe workstation set up at home
Employers should provide to their employees the SafeWork NSW – WORKPLACE HEALTH AND SAFETY (WHS) CHECKLIST.
Ergonomics while at work or at home is important to ensure a safe & productive workspace. Many of people are required to remain seated for extensive periods of time throughout the day. Often, concentrating on other tasks such as work can direct attention away from any feeling of physical discomfort, until pain is triggered. It is important to make a conscious effort to take note of your body position throughout the day and re-position if you feel muscle tension or discomfort. If experiencing prolonged pain, reach out to a physiotherapist for assistance.
