A NSW icare Claims Service Provider (CSP) is an entity chosen by icare to manage workers’ compensation claims for the NSW Nominal Insurer. Claims Service Providers play a crucial role in assisting injured workers, aiming to facilitate their timely and sustainable return to work. There is an important change that ABILITY GROUP can now assist many more NSW businesses. What’s changed? How can ABILITY GROUP assist your business?

icare Claims Service Provider (CSP) Changes

An icare Claims Service Provider (CSP) is an organisation selected by icare to manage workers’ compensation claims for the NSW Nominal Insurer. These providers are responsible for supporting injured workers and helping them return to work in a timely and sustainable manner. They allocate a case manager to coordinate activities, engage in medical case conferences, and liaise with employers about suitable duties.

These providers aim to improve outcomes for injured workers, give employers greater choice, and increase financial sustainability over time.

What has icare changed?

Previously NSW businesses with a workers compensation premium $500,000+ were able to select their Claims Service Provider. This was subsequently changed to those with a workers compensation premium $200,000+. In February 2025, icare communicated that businesses with a premium of $100,000+ now have the ability to select their Claims Service Provider.

Why is the Right CSP Important?

Having the right icare Claims Service Provider (or workers compensation insurer) is crucial for NSW (Australian) businesses for several key reasons:

  • Improved Outcomes for Injured Workers: the right CSP ensures that injured workers receive the best possible care and support, which can lead to faster recovery and return to work
  • Greater Choice and Competition: a mix of quality CSPs fosters competition, driving improved performance and better care for injured workers. At ABILITY GROUP, we warmly welcome increased NSW CSP competition to ensure high quality and timely services are rewarded
  • Specialised Care for Psychological Claims: with the rise in psychological claims, having a CSP with specialised psychological claims capability is essential for addressing the unique challenges faced by workers with mental health issues
  • Transparency and Performance Tracking: SIRA/icare publishing CSP Quarterly Performance Data helps employers choose the best provider for their needs, ensuring transparency and accountability
  • Tailored Experience: the right CSP offers a tailored experience by addressing the personal and physical needs of each claim, ensuring appropriate levels of care and management

Choosing the right icare Claims Service Provider can make a significant difference in the overall well-being of injured workers as well as the financial sustainability of businesses.
