ABILITY GROUP Does Junk Free June – The entire ABILITY GROUP team has decided to put together a united front for June and go Junk Free to support the Cancer Council Australia. The Cancer Council’s mission is to;

Lead a cohesive approach to reduce the impact of cancer.

Cancer Council Australia works with its members the eight state and territory cancer organisations to:

  • undertake and fund cancer research
  • prevent and control cancer
  • provide information and support for people affected by cancer.

ABILITY GROUP are seeking our clients, partners, family, friends and the public (you!) to help support us in fundraising for this cause. Our team goal is to raise as much money as possible but the more the better and every cent counts!

Please back us and donate here

We encourage everyone to participate in this initiative. You can do it solo or form a group with your closest friends, family members or colleagues.

  • $25 can help transport people affected by cancer to and from vital treatment
  • $50 can help fund a call to a cancer nurse on 13 11 20 that provides free and confidential information and support on all aspects of cancer.
  • $100 can help fund ground-breaking research into new and better ways to prevent, diagnose and treat cancer patients

Why choose the Cancer Council Australia?

According to the Cancer Council website, Cancer is one of the most common diseases and a major health problem in Australia today. At current rates, it is expected 1 in 2 Australian men and 1 in 3 Australian women will be diagnosed with cancer by the age of 85. An estimated 130,470 new cases of cancer will be diagnosed in Australia this year. Cancer is a leading cause of death in Australia – more than 44,000 people died from cancer in 2013. Around 19,000 more people die each year from cancer than 30 years ago, this is due mainly to population growth and aging. However, the death rate (number of deaths per 100,000 people) has fallen by more than 16%. More than 66% of people diagnosed with cancer in Australia will survive more than five years after diagnosis.

ABILITY GROUP is passionate about this cause as we believe most people have been affected by cancer whether it was you or someone you know who has gone through it.

What foods are on our “DON’T” list?

Our team have decided to cut out soft drinks, fast-food meals, lollies & chocolate, cookies, muffins, donuts, cake, crisps and hot chips, ice-cream and energy drinks. However, it’s your choice as to what you decide to give up during this time!

According to the Junk Free June website, living junk free is all about enjoying nutritious foods and drinking plenty of water. As a general rule of thumb, eat plenty of vegetables, fruit, grain foods, lean meats and poultry, legumes and beans, milk, yoghurt and cheese or non-dairy alternatives.

How is Junk Free June related to helping prevent cancer?

Junkfreejune.org are building a healthy-living community by providing the people with a platform dedicated to health and well-being. They want people to make healthier life choices which will in the long run, reduce their risk of cancer.What we eat and drink may cause around 30 percent of cancers in industrialised countries. Some foods and a chance to a nutritious diet and eating patterns can reduce your risk.

“Analysis of global research shows that about a third of the most common cancers can be prevented through a nutritious diet, maintaining a healthy weight and regular physical activity” – World Cancer Research Fund International. Simple changes to your lifestyle can have a big impact on your personal health. These include;

  • drinking a lot of water
