Early contact from the employer is important following a workplace injury and can improve the workers recovery and their return to work outcomes. Research shows that making early contact helps your worker feel supported in their recovery and when contact is maintained, they are more likely to achieve better recovery outcomes.

If a worker feels that their injury is taken seriously and supported in their recovery, particularly by the employer, they will be more motivated to gain access to necessary treatment to help them recover and return to the workplace.

It is also important to establish regular contact with the employee to show continued support and interest in their recovery and well-being.

Based on the data from (SIRA) State Insurance Regulatory Authority:

  • For physical claims – 88% of the workers who had early contact from the workplace had returned to work compared to 70% who hadn’t been in contact
  • For psychological claims – 77% of workers who had early contact from the workplace had returned to work compared to 53% who had no contact

Based on the above date from SIRA, it is shows the benefits of early contact from the employers does improve recovery and return to work.

It is also very important to have a positive workplace culture which can protect the workers from common work stressors, reducing the likelihood of injury and contributes to positive return to work outcomes when an injury does occur at work. Positive workplace culture improves recovery at work and benefits both the individual and the organisation.
