Building off the success of another one of SIRA’s programs, SIRA has launched a program with ALDI, Toll and Catholic Church Insurance with the goal of helping injured workers even more. SIRA’s Workers COmpensation Assist Pilot is intended to help people navigate NSW workers compensation processes.

SIRA demonstrated the success of its pilot through the CTP Assist program. Introduced in 2017, this program offers help to people injured in motor accidents in NSW and some users of compulsory third party (CTP) Green slip scheme (such as health providers, lawyers and lawyers).

Expanding upon the encouraging results of this pilot, SIRA launched a program in the NSW workers’ compensation scheme, appropriately named the Work Compensation Assist. This program offers assistance to injured workers in similar ways to the CTP Assist program. Although current details of the Work Compensation Assist aren’t published yet, the CTP Assist program offered support such as:

  • Identifying which insurer to claim with
  • Submitting a claim
  • Accessing injury recovery information and resources
  • Challenging an insurers’ decision
  • Identifying and accessing legal and local community resources

For someone unfamiliar with the workers’ compensation process, these are very effective services in helping someone navigate their claim. So far, SIRA has been calling workers affected by psychological injuries, COVID-19 claims and those impacted by physical injuries, directing them through their claims journey and also providing education about the benefits of having an active role in their recovery.

SIRA Chief Executive Adam Dent stated, “In the first 10 weeks of the pilot, 85% of customers reported an improved understanding of their return to work and recovery as a result of Workers Compensation Assist.” So far, SIRA have partnered with ALDI, Toll and Catholic Church Insurance for this pilot. The results have been promising so far, with ALDI National Work Health & Safety Director Simon Borham reporting, “ALDI employees are reporting a positive experience from the pilot and the

insights provided by SIRA each month help us drive continuous development within our workers compensation program”. With such promising results, SIRA is striving to continue to develop and expand the Workers Compensation Assist based upon its own and partnered insurers’ data.
