Recent Data Analytics carried out by the State Authority Regulatory Authority (SIRA), have identified hundreds of employers who have failed to lodge the policy for mandatory workers compensation insurance.
SIRA Identify Non-Compliance – In an effort to increase compliance across employers in NSW, SIRA are currently undertaking a ‘3-letter’ notification program to remind and encourage lodgement of a worker’s compensation policy.
The letters are sent in a sequence increasing in severity of warning:
• The first letter identifies the employer’s misconduct and encourages action, initially by contacting SIRA to begin lodgement of a worker’s compensation policy. If the employer is unable to take out the worker’s compensation policy after this initial letter, they will receive a second notification letter.
• The Second letter acts as a reminder for action, and failure to complete the request will result in an audit. If the employer is unable to take out the worker’s compensation policy after this second letter, they will receive a third notification letter.
• The third letter is a notification of an audit.
The notifications have been distributed weekly in batches of 100’s since mid-October and are expected to reach over 800 non-compliant employers by the end of the calendar year.
