Along with the introduction of new laws, the Fair Work Ombudsman has put employers on notice that ignorance is no longer an acceptable excuse for not meeting their minimum obligations in relation to record keeping & paying employees. Employees who work in full time roles are typically very aware of their breaks & what they are entitled to. A recent article indicates there is a sense of ambiguity surrounding the legislation for those working shorter shift hours such as certain McDonalds staff.

Employer Abuses Drug Policy

Alcohol and drugs (including medicines prescribed by a doctor or available from a pharmacy) can affect a person’s ability to work safely. Most businesses have a Drug & Alcohol Policy to help ensure employees safety whilst at work. An employer however abused their policy to wrongly terminate an employee.
