Along with the introduction of new laws, the Fair Work Ombudsman has put employers on notice that ignorance is no longer an acceptable excuse for not meeting their minimum obligations in relation to record keeping & paying employees. Most businesses have a Drug & Alcohol Policy to help ensure employees safety whilst at work. An employer however abused their policy to wrongly terminate an employee.

A carpenter who was found to have forged medical certificates in order to continue to receive payments under his workers compensation claim, has been gaoled for 9 months. The court also has ordered him to re-pay $112,975 in fruadlent payments received under the claim.
