ABILITY GROUP was engaged by a client to manage a claim for a worker who had injured their knee. The prognosis involved surgery and a lengthy return to work process. Our intervention in managing this claim delivered $160,000 of workers compensation related savings.

At the end of 2014 WorkCover NSW provided their Report Card on the numerous changes made during the last 12-18 months for small businesses. As these changes have driven such positive outcomes across the 260,000 small business employers in the NSW scheme, WorkCover NSW recently announced similar changes for medium to large businesses following the 2015 NSW state election.
The important changes for medium to large NSW businesses adopt the key principles of delivering easy to understand premiums, providing safer workplaces, improving return to work, recovery at work for injured workers, reducing red tape and delivering sustainability plus certainty. A recent paper commissioned by Safe Work Australia confirms businesses that invest in workplace safety receive cost and productivity benefits that provide a positive Return on Investment (ROI).
As WorkCover NSW plans to implement changes for medium to large businesses in 2015, including Employer Safety Incentive (ESI) and Return to Work Incentive (RTWI), the benefits can increase.

Significant changes have been made to workers compensation during the last 12-18 months and WorkCover NSW recently released their report card promoting the resulting positive impacts. NSW reforms were designed to make workplaces safer, premiums fairer, affordable and easier to understand. With less claims, improved Return to Work rates, less red tape are a few of the results.
The old Workers Compensation Scheme was failing many NSW businesses. It was difficult to follow, time consuming to renew and often came with unexpected premium increases that added uncertainty and stress. In 2012, ideas were explored for ways to improve the system, starting with reforms for the small employers of NSW.

Earlier today WorkCover NSW announced 2015 Scheme Agent Deed and changes associated with the submissions made earlier this year by existing and new insurers/agents for NSW Workers Compensation licences.
Effective from 1 January 2015, there will only be 5 NSW Scheme Agents (reduced from 7 currently operating) with resulting changes to impact a significant number of NSW businesses.
We believe it is important brokers/advisers/businesses understand what the changes announced today mean. Also find out which existing insurers will exit the NSW Workers Compensation scheme and understand more about today’s 2015 Scheme Agent Deed.
