With construction sites reopening after lockdowns, employers must implement safety measures to reduce contact and risks.

SafeWork NSW’s Priorities in Construction

SafeWork NSW has identified the construction industry as a high?risk sector and continues to intensify inspections across worksites. According to SafeWork NSW’s regulatory priorities, inspectors are targeting:

  • Repeat offenders – businesses with poor compliance records face stronger enforcement.
  • Businesses risk on?the?spot fines of $3,600 for corporations and $720 for individuals over inadequate fall protection
  • Falls from heights – one of the leading causes of fatalities in construction.
  • Crystalline silica exposure – linked to serious long?term health risks.
  • Mobile plant safety – ensuring machinery is operated and maintained correctly.
  • Mental health and wellbeing – promoting awareness and support for workers under pressure.
