On the 6th of October icare announced a significant change aimed to improve the current workers compensation claims management program with the selection of six Claims Management Service Providers. New Claims Service providers commence 1 January 2023 & we see this as a positive change to help drive improved outcomes for employers & workers alike.
Along with the Employers Mutual Ltd (EML), the current Scheme Agent, DXC, Gallagher Bassett (GB), GIO and QBE have also been appointed to manage claims under the NSW Worker Compensation Insurance scheme, starting from January 1st, 2023.
The contracts are for 10 years, subject to performance. Further providers may be brought on to the panel at a future date.
Finance Minister Damien Tudehope has said that the selection follows a Consultation and Tender process which aims to improve outcomes for injured workers, give employers greater choice, and increase financial sustainability over time.
Icare will implement the changes in a staged approach over the next two years to minimise impact on Employer and injured workers.
CEO Richard Harding says the new contracts will enable icare to drive better performance through competition via publicly reporting provider results and making it easier for businesses to choose a provider.
Mr Harding says four providers will provide specialist psychological claims capability as well as general injury claims capability. “We’ll also bolster our approach to psychological claims management with an internal team dedicated to improving psychological claims outcomes and potential additional appointments to our provider panel in the future,” he said.
