There is no doubt that 2021 was a challenging year for most people and businesses alike. COVID-19 inflicted an unprecedented economic collapse causing millions of Australians to face unemployment which in turn resulted in a significant increase in the number of individuals presenting with mental health concerns.
As the pandemic continues to affect our daily lives the mental health concerns continue to take a toll on many workplaces. Company’s were required to change their business models during the COVID pandemic, employees working remotely or on reduced hours, or working in essential roles with the pressure to keep society functioning.
A recent survey showed 20% of the operators admitted to having mental health and stress concerns from current challenges including COVID. With extended lockdowns and changes to the rules and regulations, it can be very difficult for small businesses to keep up and adjust, especially not knowing future outcomes, which can be very distressing.
SafeWorkâs Mentally Healthy Workplace ambassadors had the opportunity to share their experiences and discuss a response to the concerns of COVID-19 and mental health.
In response, the NSW Government is promoting and providing advice and workplace mental health programs to small and medium businesses to provide opportunities for businesses to support their staff.
