October is National Safe Work Month in Australia, a time to recommit to workplace health and safety. The 2025 theme is “Safety: Every Job, Every Day”, reminding all industries that safety must be a daily priority.
At ABILITY GROUP, we believe that safe workplaces are the foundation of strong businesses and thriving communities.
Safe Work Australia oversees Work Health and Safety, closely linked to workers’ compensation. Each October, it runs National Safe Work Month to raise WHS awareness.
In October 2020, WHS awareness was vital as COVID-19 forced businesses to adapt practices and manage worker wellbeing.
Transparency and approachability are vital as WHS affects workers, families, and communities. This October, focus on both physical and psychological safety. A holistic approach encourages open communication and empowers staff to address risks.
icare’s Injury Prevention Team worked with the Mid North Coast Local Health District to create a Safety Culture Survey. It captures staff views on hazardous tasks, vicarious trauma, and explores five elements of safety culture to show how workplace culture shapes physical and psychological behaviours.
From here, an action plan was implemented based on insights provided with the aim to translate safety policies and values into lasting behavioural and cultural changes. The adoption of a more holistic approach can positively contribute to a more transparent workplace, especially during the hardships of COVID-19.
