Allied Health and Wellbeing Services: practical support for employers

Workplace allied health services connect a person’s function, recovery and health needs with the demands of their work. ABILITY GROUP helps employers identify an appropriate assessment or health-service pathway through the group’s specialist services, including HEALTH ABILITY. The starting point is the question you need answered, rather than selecting a service without a clear purpose.

What our support can cover

Workplace rehabilitation support

Discuss rehabilitation and recovery needs in the context of the person’s work, available information and relevant provider arrangements.

Functional assessments

Clarify whether a structured assessment of function could help answer a work-capacity, recovery or role-demand question.

Worksite and ergonomic assessments

Examine relevant tasks, equipment and the work environment to inform practical recommendations and workplace adjustments.

Physiotherapy and recovery support

Connect with an appropriate clinical service where assessment or treatment of a physical condition is relevant to the person’s needs.

Exercise physiology and reconditioning

Discuss clinically appropriate exercise or reconditioning support that relates to recovery goals, function and the relevant work demands.

Employer coordination

Help define referral questions, the information needed and how relevant findings will connect with injury management or return to work discussions.

When this service can help your business

You need more clarity about work demands and function

Managers may have general capacity information but need a better understanding of particular tasks. A clearly scoped functional or worksite assessment can help provide relevant information.

Recovery needs to connect with the workplace

Clinical progress and actual task demands may not be discussed together. Coordinated support can help identify the work information and communication needed by the relevant recovery team.

The organisation needs a clearer referral pathway

Different requests may be going to different providers without a consistent purpose. We can help your team distinguish treatment, assessment, workplace coordination and any statutory provider requirement.

What you can expect from the engagement

Outputs depend on the chosen service and purpose. They may include a clinical or functional report, workplace recommendations, rehabilitation goals or agreed communication with relevant stakeholders. The practitioner, assessment method, reporting scope and any insurer or scheme approval must be confirmed before the service proceeds. We do not assume that every allied health service is interchangeable or appropriate for every referral.

How we work with your team

We clarify the reason for the enquiry, the work context and the decision the findings will inform. The appropriate practitioner or service pathway is then identified, with relevant information, permissions and referral arrangements considered. Where several services are involved, their purposes and responsibilities are kept clear so the employer receives useful information without duplicating work.

Allied Health and Wellbeing Services FAQs

Which allied health service does our organisation need?

That depends on the question. Treatment, functional assessment, worksite review, rehabilitation and exercise-based reconditioning have different purposes. Tell us what decision or problem you are trying to address and we can discuss an appropriate starting point.

How do ABILITY GROUP and HEALTH ABILITY work together?

AG can help scope the employer question and coordinate the relevant workplace context. HEALTH ABILITY provides specialist health services within its clinical scope. The practitioner, referral arrangements and any separate reporting or coordination requirements are confirmed for the engagement.

Can you help with both individual referrals and workplace projects?

Yes, where there is a suitable service scope. An individual assessment may address a specific function or recovery question, while a workplace project may examine selected tasks, ergonomic concerns or referral processes across a team.

Are allied health services automatically covered by workers compensation?

No. Funding depends on the scheme, claim circumstances, service and any required approval. The appropriate referral, provider eligibility and payment arrangements should be confirmed before assessment or treatment proceeds.

Is an assessment report the same as medical clearance?

No. A report provides findings within the practitioner’s scope and the agreed assessment purpose. Medical certification, statutory decisions and the employer’s decisions about work arrangements involve their own responsibilities and relevant professional input.

Can the findings support suitable work discussions?

Yes. Relevant functional or worksite findings can help the employer and recovery team understand demands, possible adjustments and questions requiring further consideration. The information should be interpreted in context rather than treated as a standalone decision.

How do we arrange a referral?

Start by explaining the purpose, work location and any relevant timeframe. We can then discuss the appropriate service, information needed, practitioner availability and any required permissions, insurer approval or other referral arrangements.
