WHS Consulting for Employers: practical support for employers
A WHS consultant brings an independent view to the way workplace risks are identified, managed and reviewed. ABILITY GROUP helps employers connect safety advice with the decisions supervisors and managers make every day. Our consulting can focus on one problem or provide an ongoing point of support for a business that needs extra capacity and clear priorities.
What our support can cover
Practical WHS advice
Discuss workplace concerns, proposed operational changes and the questions your managers need to resolve before moving forward.
Workplace and process reviews
Examine selected tasks, sites or procedures to identify where documented expectations and everyday work may differ.
Roles and reporting
Clarify who receives safety information, who makes decisions and how incidents, hazards and improvement actions are followed through.
Consultation arrangements
Review the opportunities workers and relevant representatives have to raise concerns and contribute to decisions about their work.
Improvement planning
Develop a realistic sequence for agreed changes, recognising operational constraints, resources and the people responsible for delivery.
Ongoing consulting support
Provide a sounding board for your internal WHS, HR or leadership team as new issues arise or an improvement program progresses.
When this service can help your business
There is no dedicated WHS manager
An employer may need specialist guidance without adding a full-time role. We can discuss a focused project or a support arrangement that complements the responsibilities already held internally.
A policy exists but practice is inconsistent
Different sites or supervisors may apply the same requirements differently. Consulting can help identify what is unclear, impractical or missing from implementation.
Operations are changing
A new location, equipment, service model or contractor arrangement can introduce different risks. Early advice helps place safety considerations into the planning discussion.
What you can expect from the engagement
An engagement may result in a defined issue brief, findings from the agreed review, an action plan and selected changes to processes or supporting documents. We explain the basis for recommendations and who needs to be involved in implementation. The aim is a useful management response, with responsibilities and review points your business can maintain.
How we work with your team
We agree the question, the work locations and the information needed to understand it. Depending on scope, we speak with relevant people, review existing arrangements and consider workplace observations. We then discuss priorities, implementation options and whether ongoing consulting would help. This can connect with a risk assessment, systems review or psychosocial risk project where a more detailed scope is needed.
Why work with ABILITY GROUP?
WHS support is grounded in Julie Ring's WHS qualifications and the group's experience with workplace safety, injury management and workers compensation. Your engagement is scoped around the work, the relevant risks and the support your people need.
WHS Consulting for Employers FAQs
What does a WHS consultant do for an employer?
A consultant reviews an agreed workplace safety issue and helps the employer understand its options and priorities. This may involve processes, responsibilities, documentation, consultation or specific risks. AG can also help the internal team implement agreed improvements.
Can you help without replacing our internal WHS person?
Yes. We can provide an independent perspective, additional capacity or support for a particular issue while your WHS person retains their internal role. The scope should make decision-making, communication and follow-up responsibilities clear.
Do we need a full WHS system review?
Not necessarily. A focused consultation may be enough to define the issue and next steps. A broader review is useful when several connected concerns, inconsistent practices or major operational changes need to be considered together.
Can consulting include workplace visits?
It can, where site observations are relevant to the question. The location, purpose of the visit, people involved and any specialist assessment requirements are agreed first. Some advice and document review can be provided remotely.
Can AG help with policies and procedures?
Yes, within an agreed scope. We can review whether selected documents are suitable for your work, identify gaps and assist with practical revisions. Effective implementation also involves people understanding their responsibilities and knowing how to apply the process.
Will a consultant take over our WHS responsibilities?
No. Consulting provides advice and support, while the business and relevant duty holders retain their responsibilities. We help clarify decisions and actions rather than treating an external review as a transfer of accountability.
Can we engage you for ongoing WHS advice?
Yes. Ongoing support can be tailored around regular discussions, agreed priorities and the issues your team is managing. We can discuss whether a defined project, periodic review or continuing support arrangement best suits your needs.
