Claim & Rehab SuccessAfter identifying a client’s claim had deteriorated, we explained that the lost wages under the new workers compensation formula would result in material increases in their next 3 premiums. After subsequently being engaged to manage the claim, our Senior Injury Management Specialist identified key strategies, including engaging specialist rehabilitation support which returned the injured worker 4 weeks ahead of schedule.

Claim RTW Success – Early professional engagement with managing workplace injuries and resulting workers compensation claims is important to minimising costs. Early engagement can accelerate the assessment and treatment of injuries and allow injured workers to return to work quicker. Under the NSW Workers Compensation scheme 30 June 2015 changes lost wages will impact the next 3 premiums and when bench marking performance against the entire scheme businesses with wage loss will be disadvantaged.

A client had decided to manage the workers compensation claim associated with an injured worker. After reporting the claim late and having to pay an excess, the claim was effectively left with the doctor and injured worker to determine return to work. After being engaged our Injury Management Specialist questioned decisions made and was able to engage HEALTH ABILITY specialists workplace rehabilitation support to assess work capacity and suitable duties. The Injured worker was able to return to suitable duties 4 weeks earlier than originally directed by the doctor / surgeon. Although at times it is difficult to have workers in an office environment, the approximate $5,000 cost reduction of the claim costs will reduce the next 3 years premiums by approximately $20,000 – $30,000.
